Ben's Big Night

Against Mansfield at Keystone Hall on January 21, Dave Ben became the Kutztown University men's basketball all-time leading scorer. Here are a few photographs from that evening. As always, they were taken by Tony Vasquez.

You think Dave Ben is going to go down as the all-time best player in KU history? Personally, his game is unorthodox to watch and it seemed like he was always one mistake away from costing his team a bucket or two, but he always was an exciting player. He knows how to score and that's about as much as you can say about the guy. He's got a nose for the rim and he's improved his outside shooting since he was a freshman.

I say he goes down as the best KU player ever. But I was only there four years, so what do I know. I'm glad I got to cover him, though.

Cory,

Nice to hear from you. I'd have to do more research before I decided if Ben was KU's best player ever. Like you said, we've only been around for the last few years (6 in my case), so it is hard to compare him to players from the last few decades.

That said, by the time his career is over, there is no doubt that he will be in the Kutztown Hall of Fame and that his name will be discussed as one of the best ever to wear a KU men's basketball jersey.

By the way, I agree 100% with your assessment of his playing style. At times he haunted the team with his erratic play, but often that would lead him to huge scoring runs that would single-handily lead the Golden Bears to a win. When I watch the 76ers, I often compare Andre Iguodala to him. They both fit the same profile.

He will be missed next season.
